How we chose

We assessed current Australian exact models, local availability and pricing, maximum and rated pressure, water flow, motor and pump architecture, hose quality and length, surface-cleaner inclusion, accessories, owner evidence, warranty, weight, storage, large-area suitability, vehicle usability and value. Worth Buying Australia did not physically pressure-test these machines.

Serious contenders reassessed

Gerni 7300 GPW-7300: offers a 12m steel-braided hose and an excellent accessory package, but its independent exact-model evidence is materially more mixed. Ryobi RACPWS7: is a serious value alternative with strong hosted and retailer feedback, though the Gerni 5000 adds a longer hose, hose reel, broader bundle and stronger warranty architecture for less.

Stihl RE 130 Plus: has impressive induction-motor and hose hardware but mixed current owner evidence. Ozito HPW-2320K: is an exceptional ultra-budget option at about $148, while Bosch AdvancedAquatak 140 remains technically credible but has thinner current Australian availability and exact-model evidence.

Gerni 7000 High Pressure Washer GPW-7000

9.1/10
Gerni 7000 GPW-7000 high pressure washer in black and blue with wheels, telescopic handle and integrated hose reel
Worth Buying score9.1 / 10Research-based editorial score
Bunnings · exact GPW-7000★★★★☆ 4.2 / 5About 66 reviews · checked 18 Sep 2026
VerdictThe strongest all-round full-size electric pressure cleaner for large Australian suburban properties, combining serious output, long reach and useful accessories at a much lower price than flagship K7-class machines.

The Gerni 7000 combines a 2300W brushless motor with 2175psi maximum pressure, 2103psi rated pressure and 6.7L/min rated flow. Those specifications matter together: the working pressure is close to the headline figure, while the rated flow gives it useful flushing ability once dirt has been loosened. It is a better fit for driveways, paths, paving, exterior walls and caravans than a compact occasional-use washer.

The 10m anti-kink steel-braided hose is a practical advantage. It reduces machine repositioning around vehicles and larger paved areas, while the integrated reel makes a long hose easier to store. The included Mid Patio Cleaner, external Foam Sprayer, Jet Spray Nozzle and Variable Spray Nozzle cover most normal domestic jobs without requiring an immediate accessory purchase.

The trade-off is size. At 20.6kg it is a substantial machine, and the hose reel, long hose and accessories all need storage space. Its 4.2/5 owner rating is solid rather than outstanding. The seven-year warranty also requires the eligible two-year online extension; the automatic standard term is five years.

Gerni 5000 High Pressure Washer GPW-5000

8.9/10
Gerni 5000 GPW-5000 high pressure washer in black and blue with wheels, tall handle and integrated hose reel
Worth Buying score8.9 / 10Research-based editorial score
Bunnings · exact GPW-5000★★★★☆ 4.3 / 5About 110 reviews · checked 18 Sep 2026
VerdictThe current price-performance sweet spot for normal suburban cleaning, with a useful accessory set, hose reel and large retailer owner pool at $289.

The Gerni 5000 is much lighter and cheaper than the overall pick while retaining the features most households will actually use. Its 1885psi maximum pressure, 1522psi rated pressure and 5.8L/min rated flow suit cars, paths, decks, outdoor furniture, fences, patios and occasional driveway work. The aluminium pump is a welcome step above disposable-feeling ultra-budget architecture.

An 8m hose and integrated reel make the machine more usable than compact cleaners with short hoses. The Mid Patio Cleaner, Wash Brush, Foam Sprayer, Jet Spray Nozzle and Variable Spray Nozzle form a genuinely complete package rather than a bare machine that immediately needs extras. At 8.7kg it is also much easier to move and store than the 20.6kg Gerni 7000.

The main limitation is large-area speed. Its rated flow is only 5.8L/min, so a heavily stained driveway will take longer than with the stronger finalists. Evidence is also conflicted: the large Bunnings pool is positive, but a small independent ProductReview sample is more mixed and includes individual attachment, seal and reliability complaints.

Kärcher K7 Smart Control Car & Home

9.0/10
Kärcher K7 Smart Control Car and Home pressure washer in yellow and black with integrated hose reel and Smart Control spray equipment
Worth Buying score9.0 / 10Research-based editorial score
Bunnings · current Car & Home configuration★★★★★ 4.6 / 5About 25 reviews · checked 18 Sep 2026
VerdictThe premium domestic choice for buyers who clean large driveways, extensive paving and exterior surfaces frequently enough to justify flagship output and a broad Car & Home kit.

The exact Australian 1.317-242.0 package combines a 2200W water-cooled motor, 2600psi maximum pressure and 8.1L/min maximum flow with a 10m hose and integrated reel. Kärcher rates area performance at 60m²/h. Maximum specifications do not guarantee that result on every surface, but this is clearly positioned above mainstream domestic machines for sustained large-area cleaning.

The verified Car & Home bundle includes the T7 Surface Cleaner, stone and façade cleaner, wash brush, foam jet, car shampoo, G 180 Q Smart Control gun and 3-in-1 Multi Jet lance. Pressure adjustment and boost mode can be controlled at the gun, while the Home & Garden app adds guidance and settings. The app is optional convenience rather than a core reason to spend this much.

Price is the problem. Bunnings promotional pricing around $799 was observed at the research date, while Kärcher's direct Australian price was $1,299.90. Buyers should verify the live price rather than assuming the promotion is permanent. Broader K7 family evidence is also mixed, with complaints about hoses, reels, service and accessory costs across multiple generations and configurations.

What matters when buying a pressure cleaner

Pressure is only one part

PSI describes pressure, but cleaning speed also depends on water flow, nozzle design, pump performance, the chosen surface cleaner and the machine's rated working pressure. A larger headline PSI number does not automatically identify the better washer.

Maximum versus rated pressure

Maximum pressure is usually the marketing headline. Rated or working pressure can be lower and better reflects continuous operation. Compare like with like: the Gerni tables publish both figures, while the current Kärcher Australian page publishes its maximum.

Flow rate matters

Higher water flow helps flush loosened dirt and can speed large-area cleaning. Maximum and rated flow are different measurements, so do not compare one brand's maximum directly with another product's rated figure without keeping those labels visible.

Surface cleaners for driveways

A rotating patio or surface cleaner reduces overspray and can produce a more even finish across concrete and paving. For a large driveway, the included surface-cleaner design can matter more than a modest difference in headline pressure.

Cars need controlled pressure

Use the appropriate fan nozzle, setting and working distance. Do not aim turbo or maximum pressure point-blank at paint, seals, trim, badges or tyres. More pressure is not better when the surface can be damaged.

Timber needs restraint

High pressure can raise or fur timber fibres, strip coatings and damage soft wood. Start with a wider fan, lower pressure and greater distance, then follow the surface and coating manufacturer's care guidance.

Hose length changes usability

An 8–12m hose reduces machine repositioning around cars, paths and larger properties. Construction matters too: the Gerni 7000's steel-braided hose is a meaningful ownership feature, though longer hoses also add bulk.

Motor type is not proof

Brushless, induction and water-cooled designs are generally better suited to frequent heavier use than cheap universal-motor machines. Motor architecture still does not prove durability by itself; exact-model owner evidence and support matter.

Pressure-cleaner safety

Never direct a pressure jet at people, animals, live electrical equipment or the washer itself. Avoid asbestos-containing material, damaged electrical installations and unstable painted surfaces that may contain hazardous material. Use cleaning chemicals only according to the product label and the machine manufacturer's compatibility instructions.

Which one should you buy?

Choose the Gerni 7000 GPW-7000 for the best balance of serious domestic output, long hose reach, useful accessories and price.

Choose the Gerni 5000 GPW-5000 when value, low weight and a complete sub-$300 package matter more than maximum large-area speed.

Choose the Kärcher K7 Smart Control Car & Home when extensive paving and frequent heavy domestic cleaning genuinely justify the premium cost.

Frequently asked questions

How much PSI do I need for a driveway?

A mainstream full-size electric washer around the Gerni 5000 class can clean an ordinary driveway, especially with a suitable surface cleaner. Larger or heavily stained concrete benefits from stronger rated pressure and flow. Technique, nozzle choice and surface-cleaner quality matter alongside PSI.

Is PSI or water flow more important?

Neither figure should be used alone. Pressure helps break the bond between dirt and the surface; flow helps carry loosened material away. Large-area cleaning generally benefits from a useful combination of working pressure, flow and an effective surface cleaner.

Can a pressure cleaner damage a car?

Yes. Excess pressure, the wrong nozzle or working too close can damage paint, trim, seals, badges and tyres. Use a controlled fan spray and appropriate distance, avoid turbo nozzles on delicate areas and follow vehicle-care guidance.

Is a patio cleaner worth having?

For driveways, paths and patios, usually yes. The enclosed rotating jets reduce overspray and can create a more even result than sweeping a narrow lance back and forth. It is less important if you mainly wash vehicles or small objects.

Is an induction or brushless pressure washer worth it?

It can be worthwhile for frequent, heavier domestic use because these motor designs are generally better suited to longer workloads than inexpensive universal-motor machines. The motor label is not a reliability guarantee, so warranty, pump construction and owner evidence still matter.
