How we chose
We compared current Australian availability, exact-model owner evidence, price, cleaning hardware, navigation, obstacle avoidance, dock automation, maintenance and software support. Worth Buying scores are research-based editorial judgements; customer ratings and manufacturer specifications remain separately attributed, and we did not physically test these robots.
Roborock Saros 10R — RR-S10R52-03-BLK

Illustrative editorial image, not an exact product photograph.
The Saros 10R is the best-balanced premium choice at about $1,499. Its 7.98cm body, StarSight 2.0 navigation, 3D time-of-flight sensing, RGB recognition and VertiBeam lateral sensing target low furniture and clutter without a raised LiDAR turret.
DuoDivide and anti-tangle side brushes, FlexiArm edge cleaning and dual spinning mops cover mixed floors. The dock empties dust, washes mops with hot water, dries them with warm air, refills water, dispenses detergent and can remove mop modules. These are manufacturer specifications, not Worth Buying test results.
What owners say
ProductReview showed 3.8/5 from 55 exact-model reviews, about 73% positive and 27% negative. Owners praise mapping, low-profile access, cleaning convenience, automated maintenance and pet-hair handling. Material negatives include reliability faults, occasional stuck/navigation behaviour, support and repair handling, and high repair costs.
Pros
- Balanced premium automation
- Low-profile obstacle avoidance
- Strong anti-tangle design
- Automatic mop handling
- Meaningful local owner pool
Cons
- Around $1,500
- Fault and support complaints
- Large dock
- Ongoing consumable costs
- Hair claims are manufacturer marketing
Dreame D20 Pro Plus — R2566Q

Illustrative editorial image, not an exact product photograph.
At around $999 before temporary promotions, the D20 Pro Plus offers strong everyday vacuuming, useful mapping, anti-tangle hardware and a dry auto-empty dock. It does not pretend to be a $2,000 flagship.
Its 4.6/5 exact-model ProductReview score is unusually strong. Owners commonly praise value, setup, mapping, quiet operation, pet-hair pickup and auto-empty convenience. But its mop is a basic maintenance wipe and its avoidance is less capable around cables, toys and clutter. Wi-Fi, remapping and support complaints also appear.
What owners say
ProductReview showed 4.6/5 from 32 exact-model reviews, around 92% positive, with many verified purchasers. Research-time subscores were about 4.7 for build quality, value, ease and cleaning/maintenance, and 4.5 for battery. The Good Guys has a separate review pool; we do not merge it.
Pros
- Strong vacuum-focused value
- Useful mapping and auto-emptying
- Good pet-hair reports
- Strong exact-model evidence
- Far cheaper than full-service flagships
Cons
- Basic mop only
- No dock mop washing
- Weaker small-object avoidance
- Cables and toys still need clearing
- Some app and support complaints
Vacuuming, mopping and suction claims
Pickup depends on airflow, brush design, floor contact, route quality and debris—not Pa alone—so cross-brand suction claims are not universal cleaning scores. The D20 Pro Plus is primarily a strong vacuuming and dry self-emptying package; its pad provides a basic maintenance wipe. Saros 10R and X60 Ultra add active spinning mops, carpet management and dock washing for more capable hard-floor care.
Hard floors benefit from mop pressure, edge reach and pad washing. Carpet and pet homes need brush agitation, floor contact, reliable mop lifting or removal and regular checks for hair around brushes, axles and dock air paths.
Navigation, obstacles, thresholds and low furniture
LiDAR maps room geometry, while structured light, cameras and time-of-flight sensing add nearby-object and depth data. Even premium systems can ingest cables, shoelaces or toys and cannot guarantee pet-waste avoidance, so clear high-risk clutter before running.
Low-profile bodies reach beneath furniture that blocks raised turrets. Threshold results depend on shape, grip and approach: X60 Ultra's 8.8cm claim applies to a double-layer obstacle arrangement, while its single vertical-step claim is 4.5cm. Measure both furniture clearance and doorway geometry.
Docks, maintenance, consumables and privacy
D20 Pro Plus transfers dry debris into a bag. Saros 10R and X60 Ultra also wash and dry mops, refill water and dispense solution, reducing daily handling but adding footprint, tanks, pumps and consumables. Budget for bags, filters, brushes, mop parts and approved solution; clean sensors and remove wrapped hair regularly.
Maps, room controls, schedules and firmware commonly depend on Wi-Fi, vendor apps and cloud services. Some premium robots use indoor cameras, so check current privacy controls and long-term software support before buying.
Which one should you buy?
Choose Roborock Saros 10R for the strongest balance of automation, mature features, price and local evidence — accepting its material fault/support complaints. Choose Dreame D20 Pro Plus for vacuuming and self-empty value. Choose Dreame X60 Ultra when low furniture, difficult thresholds and advanced mopping justify the price and early evidence risk.
Useful FAQs
Are robot vacuums actually worth it?
They are excellent for frequent floor maintenance and pet hair, but do not replace stairs, upholstery, deep cleans or clutter removal.
Do robot vacuums work on carpet?
Yes, but performance depends on brush agitation, floor contact, carpet pile and reliable mop lifting or removal.
Can robot vacuums avoid cables and pet waste?
Premium sensing improves the odds but cannot guarantee avoidance. Clear cables, small toys and pet accidents first.
Can a robot vacuum cross door thresholds?
Many cross normal transitions. Higher claims depend on geometry; X60 Ultra's 8.8cm figure refers to a double-layer obstacle, while the single-step claim is 4.5cm.
Do robot vacuums need Wi-Fi?
Basic cleaning may work without it, but maps, room controls, schedules, firmware and advanced automation usually depend on Wi-Fi and the app.
How often do they need maintenance?
Check brushes, filters, sensors, wheels, dock bags and mop parts regularly; pets and frequent mopping require more attention.
